10th edition – single class application. Class 33, alcoholic goods in class 32, and pork meat in class 29 cannot be registered

What you need to know

Priority documents are allowed to be submitted within a 3-month window starting from the filing date.
The Power of Attorney (POA) must be provided at the time of filing.
A notarized or simply signed copy can be used for initial filing, with the condition that the legalized copy is submitted within 90 days, along with an additional surcharge.

LICENSE

  • What you need to know

Licensing records are not obligatory but recommended for effectiveness in dealings with third parties.
They can be recorded solely for registration purposes.
Both the licensee and licensor are required to submit separate Power of Attorney (POA) documents.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

EQUIVALENT SEARCH

At the patent office, granted patents can be unofficially searched by title, patentee name, and PCT number.

EXAMINATION

Regarding form, originality, creativity, industrial usefulness, coherence, and conformity.

PUBLICATION

Applications are published after the grant

OPPOSITION

60 days from publication in the IP Bulletin issued by the Patent Office after allowance

ANNUITIES

Due annually on the anniversary of the international filing date and payable on pending applications. 6 monthly grace period for late payment, where the last 3 months’ payment will be subjected to a surcharge

PROTECTION TERM

20 years from the filing date and 10 years from the filing date for the utility model

What you need to know
  • Copies of international publications, specifications, and drawings are required to be submitted during the initial filing.
  • The Power of Attorney (POA) and the remaining documents must be provided within 90 days from the filing date.
  • Colored scanned copies of documents in English or Arabic are accepted. In the case of documents in another language, a legally sworn English translation is necessary.

  • If a priority claim is made, a certified copy of the priority document.
What you need to know

Complete sets of representations or drawings, accompanied by the description and bibliographic information, are required during the initial filing. Scanned, full-color copies of all remaining documents can be provided within 90 days from the filing date.
