UAE University Researcher Secures US Patent for Innovative Wind Turbine Design
Dubai, UAE – A researcher at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a novel wind turbine design. This development marks a significant achievement in intellectual property and innovation originating from the UAE.
The patented design draws inspiration from the aerodynamic principles of aircraft swept-back wings. The core objective behind this innovation was to enhance the efficiency of wind turbines, particularly in environments characterised by varying wind speeds, without increasing their energy consumption. Research and development for this design spanned a six-month period.
Experts highlight that wind turbine blades featuring a swept-tip configuration can deliver improved performance. This design helps in mitigating air turbulence at the blade tips and promotes more stable airflow along the blade surfaces, leading to greater energy capture.
