UAE Ministry of Economy Grants Patent for Innovative Stem-Cell Treatment
Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Ministry of Economy has granted a patent for the development of UAECell19, an innovative stem-cell treatment, marking a significant intellectual property milestone in the nation’s biomedical sector. The treatment, developed by a team of doctors and researchers at the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre (ADSCC), has been instrumental in the recovery of thousands of patients.
Intellectual Property Recognition and Public Health Support
The granting of the patent underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering innovation and protecting intellectual property rights within its borders. This official recognition by the Ministry of Economy secures the proprietary rights over the UAECell19 treatment methodology.
In a further demonstration of support, the UAE government has announced that it will cover the costs associated with treating moderate-to-high risk COVID-19 cases using UAECell19. This regulatory decision reflects a proactive approach to public health and ensures broader access to the patented treatment.
Clinical Impact and Efficacy
The UAECell19 treatment involves extracting stem cells from a patient’s blood, activating them, and then reintroducing them into the patient’s system. Clinical observations at the ADSCC have shown promising results. The centre reported that 5,000 patients have recovered from the COVID-19 virus using this method. Additionally, four patients battling leukaemia have also successfully recovered after receiving UAECell19.
Analysis conducted by researchers indicates that the stem cell treatment significantly reduces the duration of hospitalisation, from an average of 22 days to just six days, when compared to patients receiving standard care. Patients treated with UAECell19 were also found to be 3.1 times more likely to recover in under seven days than those on standard therapy. Reportedly, 67 percent of patients attributed their recovery to the novel treatment.
As of late June, the ADSCC had treated over 2,000 COVID-19 patients with UAECell19, with 1,200 individuals achieving full recovery. This development highlights the successful integration of advanced scientific research with robust intellectual property protection and government-backed healthcare initiatives within the UAE.
