UAE University Secures Top Global Ranking for US Utility Patents, Bolstering National Innovation Framework

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has achieved a significant milestone in intellectual property, being ranked first in the UAE and 67th globally for granted US utility patents in 2025. This prestigious recognition, announced by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), underscores the UAEU’s profound commitment to pioneering research and the robust legal protection of its innovations.

The achievement marks the UAEU as the sole institution from the UAE to feature within the Top 100 Universities Worldwide list, demonstrating a substantial advancement from its 90th global position in 2021. The university now shares its 67th global standing with ETH Zurich, a renowned international leader in science and technology, highlighting the increasing prominence of UAE-based research in the global intellectual property landscape.

The university’s total portfolio of granted patents has exceeded 365, with the majority having been issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This extensive patent portfolio reflects the UAEU’s consistent efforts in transforming academic research into tangible solutions, thereby contributing significantly to economic growth and technological progress, both nationally and internationally. The successful acquisition of these utility patents also demonstrates a strong understanding and application of international patent law and procedures.
